KRYSTAL ANNOUNCES EXPANSION INTO NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI WITH THREE NEW LOCATIONS OPENING IN 2008

New Krystal Restaurants Set to Open in Tupelo, Starkville and Columbus By the End of the Year

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Krystal Company has its sights set on Northeast Mississippi as the fast food icon today announced plans to expand into the market with three new corporate-owned locations slated to open by year’s end. The first restaurant will be located at 2615 West Main Street in Tupelo and is expected to open by early November. Two more Krystal locations will be located on Hwy 12 in Starkville and on Hwy 45 in Columbus, both of which are projected to open by early December. The three new locations will join the more than 20 existing Krystal restaurants in the state, the closest of which is located in East Corinth.

“We’re excited to grow Krystal’s presence in Mississippi with the opening of three new, corporate-owned restaurants,” said Fred Exum, chief executive officer, The Krystal Company. “The restaurants will be designed to serve up great food and great hospitality to our guests while offering an extraordinary value—not just in price but also in quality.”

The new Krystal restaurants will showcase the fast food icon’s complete line-up of signature product offerings that are distinctive in size and shape, served fresh, hot off the grill and perfect for anytime of the day. These menu items include: the famous Krystal hamburger; the Krystal Chik, a deliciously small, square chicken sandwich; the Krystal Pup, a Krystal-sized hot dog served with or without chili; Breakfast Scramblers, a line-up of traditional plate breakfasts stacked smartly in a bowl and conveniently enjoyed scrambled up or layer by layer; MilkQuakes, real ice cream milkshakes made with premium ingredients; and the complete line of Krystal Freeze beverages, the company’s new frozen slush drink made from pure-cane sugar and fruit flavorings.

In addition to the full line-up of premium menu items, the three new Krystal restaurants will all feature a refreshing, efficient design that pays homage to the traditional Krystal look while showcasing the company’s modern new image. The interior spaces will be bright and shiny, harking back to Krystal’s heritage with white tile, chrome, shiny stainless steel, and very clean, contemporary appearances.

Each of the new Krystal restaurants is expected to employ approximately 40 individuals.

The expansion into Northeast Mississippi is the latest move in Krystal’s plans to grow its business through the development of company-owned stores, both in heritage markets and in new markets across the South. Krystal is scheduled to open a total of 20 new company-owned restaurants by 2009, adding more than 800 jobs in local markets in at least 11 states.
